[SKULL09] Shackleton - Death Is Not Final (including T++ Remix) (12" Vinyl)
What a great piece of music! Shackleton steps back from the Dubstep /
MythStep-vibe and unfolds a new, still mystical and ancient, style with
this one. Based upon a slow, deep straight 4/4 bassdrum and
multilayered natural percusssions „Death Is Not Final“ creates a damp,
dangerous athmosphere and seems to be more score’esque than anything
Shackleton ever released to date due to several vocal samples of indian
or african (?) origin and dark soundscapes waving in and out as the
tune progresses. Names like the mid nineties Technova or Loop Guru come
to mind and if you know what we’re talking here you’re clearly
recommended to check this one out. On the flip „Death Is Not Final“ is
reworked by Berlin-based producer T++ which is associated with the
Monolake- / Dynamo-camp. His remix transforms the tune into a nice
piece of Electronica, takes away the 4/4 and comes up with what seems
to be a half bar loop built of re-processed percussion sounds instead.
This beat structures for sure is not easy and necessarily dancefloor
fitting but anyhow a good one, so once again this Skull Disco-release has to be filed as a must have. (nitestylez.de)

[SKULL08] Soundboy's Ashes Get Hacked Up And Spat Out In Disgust EP
For sure one of the hottest, freshest and most upfront collabos in
Dubstep and related styles these days is this attack of combined forces
on the beloved Skull Disco-imprint.
Whilst „Circling“ can be described as a piece of dry, techy, broken
beats fused with Basic Channel’esque deepness and Pole-like, echoic
offbeats that works advanced dancefloors – no matter if dedicated to
Dubstep, Electronica or others – perfectly in the early morning hours,
"Over Here" comes up with an overwhelmingly beautiful, partly droney
intro that in its intensity somehow reminds me of older, beatless
Metamatics-records and progresses into restless, ever buidling but
still halftempo Dubstep, once again accompanied by wallshaking
basslines and processed, sorta bleepy offbeat sounds. Highly
recommended and defo one that’ll stick in my box for ages. (nitestylez.de)

[SKULLCD01] Skull Disco - Soundboy Punishments (Double CD)
Skull Disco’s reputation as an innovative and boundary-pushing record label seems to be ever growing, whilst Shackleton and Appleblim’s reputation as two dubhead mavericks single-mindedly following the path seldom travelled and being far the more interesting as a result is already well-formed by those in the know. As both producers seem to be on the verge of greater popularity, Shackleton’s unique percussive sound winning plaudits from the likes of Ricardo Villalobos, Radio Slave and Kode 9 who have all put Shackleton releases in their sets whilst Appleblim’s bass line fury has been unleashed on many a dancefloor, including the legendary Forward club, with devastating results. Now seems to be the ideal time for releasing a document of the first releases.

[SKULL07] Shackleton - Blood On My Hands (Ricardo Villalobos Apocalypso Now Mix) (12" Vinyl)
Villalobos epic revision of Shackleton's 'Blood on My hands' classic refracted through an MDMA crystal into 18 minutes of tripping minimal techno genius similar in scope to his Fizheuer Ziheuer rhythm, but a hell of a lot darker. The source material was always ripe for versioning, with a massively disparate selection of top name DJs from Panorama bar's Cassy to Radio 1's Rob Da Bank mixing the track up with house and r'n'b alongside dubstep standards to exemplify the riddimic possibilites of such a classsic, astonishing track. [SKULL06] Soundboy's Ashes Get Chopped Out And Snorted (12" Vinyl)
Once again Skull Disco returns after a brief hiatus with two bangers for the new year. On the A-side, there's Appleblim once again upping his game with his deepest and most developed track yet. 'Vansan' is sure to be appeal to fans of Basic Channel, through to dubsteppers and the whole dubhead fraternity. Pure weight and thickness. Great stuff. Shackleton on the AA side brings the percussive vibe with a track that increases his use of intricate beats and middle-eastern influenced rhythms. It's a sprawling journey across the wasteland here with the tension increasing with every increment. You know the man's style. Out on its own! (forcedexposure.com)

[SKULL05] Soundboy's Bones Get Buried In The Dirt Vol 2 (12" Vinyl)
Ooh, I'm a sucker for a hoover, and I know Appleblim is too. Last year, he told me that there's a definite 92/93 darkside influence lurking inside his tracks. Now, with "Fear Riddim," he's gone and built an eerie little crusher around that most iconic of darkcore synth sounds. (He's in good company too - Geeneus and Pinch having come up with their own variations on the theme.) Coupled with an echoing vocal sample, it forms the refrain of his much-anticipated "Fear Riddim" - complete with clockwork hats and a bassline that will literally mash your body down into the ground. [SKULL04] Soundboy's Bones Get Buried In The Dirt Vol 1
Shackleton’s “Tin Fold Sky” is the most minimalistic MythStep-tune around, exploring the dangerous depths of ancient rituals with nothing more than a loose, hypnotic, stripped down beat, some spooky surface sounds and decent background bassline. Pure Voodoo power. On the flipside we’ve Gatekeeper, the first addition to Skull Disco's artist roster since its first release, coming up with serious bassheavy Dubstep, providing sharp metallic beats on half tempo plus ultra-digital echoes / delay effects on vox snippets that add extra darkness to his tune named “Tomb”. Must have. (nitestylez.de)
